WORK PACKAGES
In order to develop this new technology, STEELAR’s consortium has designed a work plan structured in 7 Work Packages:
STEELAR inspection Technology Development
July 2021 – December 2021
In this WP, led by MMV and with the participation of all the partners, the consortium will define technology specifications, implementation constraints and cases of use; design the optimum hardware and software in order to suit customer needs and specify technology components and overall architecture of the STEELAR system.
This WP is tightly linked to WP2 and WP3 where STEELAR technology is deployed and the inspection system is designed according to end-users’ requirements. Samples manufactured in tihs WP by MMV will be used in laboratory trials in WP4 and WP5.
STEELAR inspection Technology Development
October 2021 – March 2023
Innerspec will lead this WP and, together with Sidenor, MMV and Valji, will work on defining ultrasonic waves to be used for residual stress measurement in rolls and billets; developing of instrumentation components (pulser, sensor, data acquisition, etc.); designing and deploying residual stress measurement software and calibrations blocks manufacturing.
This WP will make use of the information collected in WP1 from both end-users. This information will be key to ensure STEELAR’s software and hardware meet Valji and Sidenor’s requirements.
STEELAR Mechanical Hardware Development
October 2021 – March 2023
DBV, leader of this WP, and Innerspec have main aims to design and develop a manual residual stress measurement probe positioner and automated actuator for curved and flat surfaces; design and develop a sensor and instrumentation encapsulation and thermal shielding and integrate and validate prototype system at Innerspec’s laboratory.
This WP will also make us of the information gathered in WP1 from Valji and Sidenor in terms of STEELAR system integration requirements.
STEELAR‘s laboratory testing
July 2021 – September 2023
The consortium partners, led in this work package by Innerspec, will test STEELAR technology at laboratory scale at Innerspec’s facilities; test that there are no incompatibilities between STEELAR software and hardware and have a system ready to tested in two different manufacturing environments.
This WP is related to WP1, WP2 and WP3 as STEELAR system will be tested after have implemented system specifications provided by Valji and Sidenor (WP1) and have developed STEELAR’s software and hardware in WP2 and WP3.
STEELAR system validation for lamination Rolls during manufacturing at Valji’s facilities
October 2023 – June 2024
Valji will lead this work package in which Innerspec, DBV and Valji will test STEELAR technology during manufacturing of rolls at Valji’s faciltiies; Test that the technology is able to inspect rolls with different material properties and sizes and study compatibility between manual probe positioner prototype and NDT system on-site.
This WP is related to WP1, WP2 and WP3. Valji provided system specifications in WP1 and Innerspec together with DBV have developed a system which fits these requirements. WP4 has also been key as software and hardware integration has been carried out. All work previously carried out in the project will be validated in this work package
STEELAR system validation during long products manufacturing at Sidenor’s facilities
October 2023 – June 2024
Sidenor, leader of this WP, Innerspec and DBV will test STEELAR technology at industrial scale at Sidenor’s faciltiies during manufacturing of long products (both the products and the rolls used to manufacture them will be addressed); test that the technology is able to assess residual stress during long product manufacturing chain from casting to finishing step (straightening) and test that STEELAR technology is able to measure residual stress in in-service rolling rolls.
This WP is related to WP1, WP2, WP3 and WP4. Sidenor provided system specifications in WP1 and Innerspec together with DBV have developed a system which fits these requirements. This WP will validate STEELAR technology during long products manufacturing as well as the manual positioner prototype designed and manufactured by DBV.
Project management, IPR and Dissemination
July 2021 – June 2024
In this WP, the consortium partners led by Innerspec, have set the following main objectives:
- Ensure technical activities, legal aspects and other issues are managed to high standard
- Coordinate legal, contractual, financial and administrative aspects of the consortium.
- Ensure all past and future IPR continues to be protected in a robust manner.
- Plan and deliver suitable dissemination events and marketing programmes, to ensure a widespread awareness and adoption of the STEELAR system.
This WP is related with all WPs within STEELAR project as its main aim is to control project progress in terms of technical and administrative tasks as well as to promote the project among potential users. This WP will acquire inputs from the aforementioned WPs (WP1, WP2, WP3, WP4, WP5 and WP6).
